Iberia retoma los vuelos a Los Ángeles

Iberia flying to Los Angeles again

Like most Western airlines, Iberia is now busy with the new Summer season, introducing new routes and destinations. There are two new longhaul routes this year, Madrid - Los Angeles and Barcelona - Miami.

This newspaper ad about the Los Angeles route has been around for some time:

Actually, Iberia flew to the US West Coast in the late 80's and early 90's with 747. This is a brochure from 1987 introducing two new destinations: Los Angeles and Chicago, flown with DC-10 at the time.

Base Airlines (1997) [completo]

BASE (Business Aviation Services Eindhoven) was a small Dutch airline head-quartered at Eindhoven. It flew with Jetstream 31 and Embraer Brasilia planes to regional destinations in neighbouring countries, and domestically to Rotterdam. Before the airline ceased to exist in 2001, it flew as a British Airways franchise carrier for some time.

Air Europe (1988)

Air Europe was starting to develop their European-wide scheduled network by 1988. They also introduced their business class that year, and great efforts were made in order to present the airline as a "serious" carrier, inline with European legacy airlines at the time. Many of their scheduled destinations, however, where some of their former leisure destinations as a charter carrier. This timetable included also some connections on other carriers, as well as their regional hub feeder Connectair flights, which later became Air Europe Express.

BEA (1970, 1971, 1972), Interbritain

As you surely already know, BEA (British European Airways) was one of the British public-owned airlines. BEA served European and domestic traffic, whilst BOAC did longhaul services. Both airlines merged in 1974 and British Airways was born. Here are three brochures publised in the early 70's with internal services in the British islands.

Unsurprisingly, there was an extensive domestic network in the UK, including Scottish internal services and helicopter flights to the Scilly Islands.

BEA had a very British fleet, including BAC one-eleven, de Havilland Heron, Vickers Vanguard and their pride ate the time, the Trident

Dos folletos similares, de 1971 y 1972:
Two further similar timetables, dating from 1971 and 1972 :

By the way, I recently wrote I was puzzled about British Airways listing as their own flights with airline codes CS and NS; CS was for Cambrian Airlines, a BEA partner which got acquired by British in 1976, whilst NS was for Northeast Airlines, also merged with British Airways that year.

Spanair : eticket

IMHO, One of the best things that ever happened in the airline business is the broadwide usage of the electronic ticket. We are now so used to it that it seems it has been around for ages, but it still is quite a novelty. IATA had set a deadline in 2007 so that all their member airlines would use the paperless ticket. If I am right, I think the deadline had to be extended because some members were not able to meet it.

This is a brochure from some years ago (ca 2005, I guess) introducing Spanair eTicket. As an "added bonus", a 3 euro discount was granted on every eticket issued...

Cameroon Airlines (1975)

The former state airline of Cameroon was created in the early 70's (until then, the country was served by Air Afrique), with Air France owning a minor stake of the shares. They had a modern fleet of Boeing 737-200 and 707 at the time, operating European routes and shorthaul services to neighbouring countries. This other timetable issued in 2000 shows how their European network had shrunk during the years

Aeroperú is another iconic South American carrier that had to close down due to financial mismanagement. This 1978 timetable shows a L-1011 TriStar that was jointly operated with Faucett, another Peruvian carrier.

Air Europe (1985)

Air Europe started in 1979 as a charter carrier and by the mid eighties started scheduled services, initially between London, Palma and Gibraltar.

British Airways (1976)

In 1976, British Airways was still a "young" airline as a result of the merge of BOAC and BEA in 1974. British airways and British Caledonian were fighting each other those years, with economical looses for both parts, until they decided to stop competing in the long haul market
These are some local city timetables for airports in the UK issued in 1976; some airline codes, such as NS, are unknown to me. They appear listed as British Airways, but I guess they were some kind of commuter airline operating on their behalf.
